As part of our remembrance activities in school to commemorate 100 years since the First World War ended, all the children designed and created their own poppy cross and placed it in front our our remembrance flag. The children also attended a special assembly and found out more about the use of poppies as an international symbol of remembrance. The assembly also highlighted the work of the Royal British Legion and their aim to support all service personnel past and present.
We have been investigating fractions. Year 1 used play doh and fruit to find 1/2. They learned that each half must be equal.
Class 2 have been reading ‘The three little pigs’ and we made some puppets to help us act out the story. We recognised and used the reptile language and tried to make our characters sound real by changing our voices.
On Wednesday 17th October 2018, Year 5 and Year 6 visited Heugh Battery Museum in Hartlepool to find out more about the World Wars. They were able to handle artefacts from both world wars and more recent conflicts. They also experienced what some soldiers may have experienced in a replica trench. The children also learnt how important Hartlepool was in the war when it was attacked by three German battleships.
This week, Year 5 and 6 took part in CPR training as part of Restart a Heart week. The children learned how to give chest compressions and rescue breaths using CPR dummies. We had lots of fun and learned vital life saving skills.
