As Easter approaches we had a delivery from Living Eggs, the children enjoyed watching the chicks hatch and grow.
We have been listening to stories, writing stories and looking for our favourite characters hidden in the classroom. We chose our favourite books and Yr6 came to read with us. We’ve had a lovely day.
Class 2 Visited The Discovery Museum, Newcastle.
We learned more about George & Robert Stephenson, then designed, built and raced air powered trains. After our packed lunch we explored the museum and found some activities which really made us think, we used our skills to solve problems.
The choir performed at St. Cuthbert’s Church Crib service on Tuesday 3rd December. They performed Let It Snow, Silent Night (in both English and German) and finally Must Be Santa. They all sang beautifully – well done everyone!
The choir enjoyed learning some new songs with Miss Taylor today for the opening ceremony of Houghton Feast. This year the children will sing three songs with other schools from the area. Well done everyone you sounded great!
Whilst on our rock hunt, we were able to go into the village church and spend a few minutes thinking about our Queen who had just died. We thought about what her reign meant to us and thought about all the good she had achieved in her life. The children had the opportunity to enjoy the quiet in the church and also explore some of the beautiful pieces of sculpture and art.
As part of our science this term, Year 3 and 4 explored the different types of rocks around the village. They respectfully walked around the local graveyard thinking about the similarities and differences in the rocks they saw. They even had the opportunity to feel how crumbly the sandstone was on the church building after it had been repaired with concrete.
As part of their Design and Technology this term, Year 3 made Japanese Fruit skewers. They all tried lychees and plum sauce before making their own skewers with various fruits. Once they were warmed under the grill they enjoyed eating the fruits of their labour!
On Friday 16th September, Year 3 had their first recorder lesson with Mr. Hamilton. He was very impressed with how the children identified the notes, held their recorder and played their very first song as a group. We even had a soloist to play the new song. Well done Year 3 – keep practising!
Year 5 and 6 have been designing and making Anderson Shelters as part of their DT this half term. They have learnt how to cut wood accurately, use nails, screws and drills as well as preparing wood for joining. The children have had great fun designing a prototype model of their shelter before making them with wood and corrugated cardboard in a small group. We are looking forward to seeing the final product. Well done Class 5!
